Racing Point/
Aston Martin F1

Between September 2020 and September 2021 I worked as a Consultant Graphic Designer with BWT Racing Point F1 Team as it transformed into Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team. Brought in
to support the team’s resident Graphic Designer during a period of considerable change and workload, I assisted in a wide range of tasks, often having to meet tight deadlines and balancing assignments.

Among my main tasks, I helped the team’s Sales Team by creating graphics for their use in communications with existing and prospective sponsors. This has included selecting evocative images for illustrative purposes; manipulating existing images to display a realistic concept of sponsorship proposals; and even helping develop effective PowerPoint templates and schemes to be used across the organisation to streamline the production of presentations and sales pitches. Aston Martin was very successful in attracting new sponsors and the quality of the presentation has been a key factor in this.

Prior to the start of the 2021 season, a great deal of work was required to adapt images of Racing Point assets to reflect the team’s new identity going forward. Though not responsible for the rebranding of the team, I became very aware of the process involved; the discussions and revisions to the logo itself, and the need to be flexible, based on many possible outcomes of sponsor agreements. My long-standing attitude of flexibility within asset creation allowed me to quickly swap out elements to suit the current needs, allowing for rapid turnarounds and efficient use of time.

Besides working with Sales, I’ve helped out with a myriad of other roles, including concept designs for the team’s e-sport clothing and sim-rig,
as well as creating the livery for the team’s official entry into the V10-R League in 2021. I also worked on the team’s newsletter, sorted out images to be used inside the motorhome every race weekend, created signage, diagrams, lanyards, maps, business cards, leaflets and even created photo montages to help decorate the factory. With branding so important to a marque such as Aston Martin, I always took great care to follow corporate guidelines whenever required, while always keenly providing alternatives when the situation called for it.

All this work was achieved with communication and collaboration with numerous members of the team. Though as a Consultant, and therefore not an integrated member of the team’s internal communication system, I was able to achieve an effective and versatile means of communicating with, and delivering work to, those who needed it.

Working with the team was a highly rewarding experience, allowing me to share my skills to improve the quality of work at the team while also allowing me an invaluable opportunity to expand my knowledge of the industry and my own skill set.
